Jets Season Preview

From 3-14 to Playoff Contender?

By Sweet Science Sports (S³)•2026 NFL Season

The New York Jets were one of the NFL's worst teams in 2025, finishing 3-14 with the league's 32nd-ranked passing offense while allowing over 500 points defensively. But after a complete offseason overhaul — new quarterback, new coordinators, nine veteran additions, and three first-round picks — the Jets enter 2026 looking nothing like the team that hit rock bottom.

2025 Season Recap

Record
3–14
4th AFC East

Despite having a productive rushing attack led by Breece Hall, inconsistent quarterback play and defensive breakdowns led to a disappointing three-win season. The Jets addressed nearly every major weakness in the offseason.

S³ Analysis

The Jets addressed nearly every major weakness from their 3-14 season. Geno Smith provides immediate stability at quarterback, while Frank Reich brings an experienced offensive system. Defensively, Aaron Glenn has added proven veterans like Minkah Fitzpatrick, Demario Davis, Joseph Ossai, and David Onyemata to complement an already talented young core.

The three first-round selections — David Bailey, Kenyon Sadiq, and Omar Cooper Jr. — add impact talent at premium positions. Combined with an experienced coaching staff and a rebuilt defense, New York enters 2026 looking far more balanced than the team that finished near the bottom of the league in 2025.

S³ Keys to Success

01Geno Smith provides consistent, turnover-free quarterback play.
02The rebuilt defense with Fitzpatrick, Davis, Ossai, and Onyemata gels quickly.
03Three first-round picks — Bailey, Sadiq, and Cooper Jr. — contribute immediately.
04Breece Hall continues to anchor a productive rushing attack.
05Aaron Glenn's aggressive defensive identity transforms the culture.

S³ Prediction

Predicted Record
6–11

The Jets should improve significantly from last season and have a realistic opportunity to compete for a Wild Card berth if Geno Smith provides consistent quarterback play and the rebuilt defense performs to expectations.

S³ Outlook

A three-win jump is a realistic expectation. Whether the Jets can push beyond .500 and into the playoff conversation depends on how quickly the new pieces gel — but the arrow is pointed up in East Rutherford.
