2025 Season Recap
The Dallas Cowboys finished the 2025 season 7-9-1, placing second in the NFC East. Despite fielding one of the NFL's most explosive offenses, the Cowboys were undone by a defense that ranked near the bottom of the league in nearly every major category. The result was an inconsistent season that featured plenty of offensive fireworks but not enough stops on the defensive side of the ball.

Dallas enters 2026 with continuity on offense while introducing a completely new defensive philosophy under Christian Parker. The expectation is simple: keep the offense among the league's best while rebuilding one of football's worst defenses.

S³ Team Analysis
Dallas doesn't have an offensive problem.
The Offense Finished
The Defense Finished
That imbalance prevented Dallas from reaching the playoffs despite having a playoff-caliber offense.
Recognizing that weakness, the front office attacked the defense during the offseason by drafting Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence, trading for Rashan Gary, signing Jalen Thompson, and hiring Christian Parker as defensive coordinator.
The Cowboys don't need an elite defense in 2026—they simply need a competent one. If Parker can elevate the unit from the bottom of the league into the middle tier, Dallas should be in the NFC Wild Card race.
S³ Strengths
S³ Weaknesses
S³ 2026 Prediction
Dallas should improve from last season thanks to a stronger defensive roster and a new coaching philosophy, but expecting an immediate leap from the league's worst defense to an elite unit is unrealistic.
The offense is talented enough to win games every week, yet the defense remains the determining factor. A modest defensive improvement should be enough to push the Cowboys back into postseason contention.
S³ Final Verdict
The Cowboys have the offensive firepower to compete with anyone in the NFC. Whether they become a legitimate contender depends entirely on how much Christian Parker transforms a defense that was the NFL's biggest liability in 2025.
