A Rebuilt Defense, A Familiar Offense
2025 Season Review
The Indianapolis Colts finished 8–9, narrowly missing the playoffs despite fielding one of the league's most productive offenses. Shane Steichen's offense ranked among the NFL's best, but an inconsistent defense prevented Indianapolis from taking the next step.

Coaching Staff
Shane Steichen returns for his fourth season as head coach. The biggest coaching addition was Lou Anarumo, who takes over as defensive coordinator with the goal of transforming one of the league's weakest pass defenses into a playoff-caliber unit.
⚡ Biggest Move
Indianapolis traded its 2026 first-round pick to acquire All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner, giving the Colts a true lockdown defender capable of changing the complexion of their secondary.

Key Departures
Without a first-round selection, Indianapolis focused on adding depth, speed, and physicality throughout the roster. Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce were re-signed.
S³ Analysis
Indianapolis didn't need to reinvent its offense—it needed to fix its defense. Jonathan Taylor remains one of football's elite running backs, Daniel Jones delivered efficient quarterback play in 2025, and Alec Pierce emerged as a legitimate deep threat. The offense proved it could produce.
Defensively, however, the Colts simply surrendered too many explosive passing plays. That weakness drove nearly every major offseason decision. Hiring Lou Anarumo, trading for Sauce Gardner, and adding multiple veteran defenders signal a franchise committed to becoming faster, more disciplined, and more aggressive.
The development of Laiatu Latu will also be critical. After posting 8.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 20 quarterback hits as a young edge rusher, he has the potential to become the centerpiece of Indianapolis' pass rush.
If the secondary improves as expected and the new defensive additions fit quickly into Anarumo's system, Indianapolis has enough offensive talent to compete for a postseason berth.
