Where Intelligence Meets Impact.
Week 9 presents an interesting collection of matchups across the NFL. Some teams are fighting to maintain control of their divisions. Others are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. And a few are beginning to show signs that they could become serious championship contenders.
The biggest theme in this week's S³ predictions is balance. A dangerous quarterback can keep a team competitive, but a complete roster, consistent defense and the ability to control possessions can make the difference between winning and losing.
Chicago continues to build momentum. Minnesota has a chance to bounce back behind its defense. New England's balanced offense gives it an advantage over Green Bay. And Seattle needs to prove it can win without Sam Darnold.
Here are the official S³ Week 9 predictions.
The featured matchups
Bears 27, Buccaneers 13
Chicago's offense is becoming increasingly difficult to defend under Ben Johnson. His creativity and aggressive approach challenge opposing defenses to account for multiple possibilities on every possession.
Tampa Bay has a quality defense, but the question is whether it can consistently handle Chicago's offensive versatility.
The addition of Jeffery Simmons has also strengthened the Bears' defensive front. Chicago is beginning to look like a team capable of competing for much more than a playoff berth.
S³ Pick: Chicago 27–13.
Vikings 27, Bills 20
The Josh Allen factor makes Buffalo dangerous in practically every matchup. Allen can create opportunities that other quarterbacks simply cannot.
But Buffalo's defense remains the concern.
Minnesota's offense has struggled, yet its defense is among the league's strongest units. The Vikings don't need an offensive explosion to win this game. They need to protect the football, take advantage of Buffalo's defensive weaknesses and prevent Allen from controlling the contest.
S³ Pick: Minnesota 27–20.
Patriots 24, Packers 20
Green Bay's passing attack can produce explosive plays, but its lack of a consistent rushing attack creates a disadvantage against balanced opponents.
New England can attack through the air and on the ground. That versatility gives the Patriots more opportunities to sustain drives and control possession.
Green Bay's defense should keep the game competitive. New England's offensive balance could ultimately decide it.
S³ Pick: New England 24–20.
Seahawks 24, Cardinals 10
Seattle remains the more complete team, but Drew Lock starting in place of Sam Darnold changes expectations for its offensive production.
The Seahawks need to avoid turnovers, establish their running game and allow their defense to dictate the contest.
Arizona could make things uncomfortable, but Seattle has enough talent to secure a comfortable divisional victory.
S³ Pick: Seattle 24–10.
The rest of the S³ Week 9 predictions
Falcons 27, Bengals 24
Atlanta gets the edge in a close matchup against Cincinnati. The Falcons need to make the most of their opportunities against a Bengals offense capable of scoring quickly.
Cowboys 24, Colts 13
Neither team has been especially convincing, but Dallas has enough talent to take advantage of Indianapolis' struggles.
Rams 28, Commanders 20
Los Angeles is trying to build momentum after a difficult start. The Rams have the offensive weapons to take control of this matchup and move above .500.
Browns 27, Saints 21
Shedeur Sanders has an opportunity to give Cleveland's offense a spark. The Browns are the more complete team, and their defense should provide enough support to secure the victory.
Chiefs 31, Jets 17
Kansas City cannot afford another setback. The Chiefs need a convincing performance to stay within striking distance in the AFC West.
Lions 34, Dolphins 10
Detroit's improving defense has been overlooked. If that unit continues its recent progress, the Lions could dominate this matchup on both sides of the football.
Broncos 20, Panthers 10
Denver's defense should be the difference. Carolina's problems protecting Bryce Young could make it difficult for the Panthers to establish any offensive consistency.
Giants 23, Eagles 16
Philadelphia's problems extend beyond the quarterback position. New York has an opportunity to exploit an Eagles offense that has struggled to establish its identity.
Texans 24, Chargers 20
Houston needs this victory after its loss to the Giants. Los Angeles has struggled throughout the season, and the Texans have an opportunity to capitalize.
49ers 30, Raiders 13
The former Bay Area rivals meet again. San Francisco is the stronger team and should have enough offensive firepower to control the contest.

S³ Final Word
The NFL is reaching the point where records alone no longer tell the entire story.
Chicago is emerging as a dangerous NFC contender. Minnesota has the defense to challenge elite opponents, even when its offense struggles. New England's balance could make it difficult to beat, while Detroit's defensive improvement deserves more attention.
The teams that can consistently win in multiple ways will have the advantage as the playoff race intensifies.
