Performance Over Potential. Production Over Reputation.

For the third consecutive week, the NFL has a new team atop the S³ Power Rankings.

The Buffalo Bills climb to No. 1 after dismantling Baltimore 36–10, while San Francisco moves into second during its bye week. Minnesota's undefeated season ended against Detroit, sending the Vikings down two positions.

Denver is emerging as one of football's most impressive teams following its victory over Kansas City. Chicago continues rolling behind Caleb Williams, and Pittsburgh is establishing itself as a serious AFC contender.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have dropped five positions after consecutive defeats, the Seahawks have fallen back to .500, and Philadelphia's season continues unraveling.

Eight weeks into the season, reputations are becoming less important than results.

THE S³ WEEK 8 NOTEBOOK

Buffalo Bills logoBuffalo Takes Control of No. 1

The Bills are now the NFL's highest-rated team in the S³ rankings.

Buffalo dismantled Baltimore 36–10, improving to 6–1 and recording one of its most impressive victories of the season.

Josh Allen continues leading one of football's most explosive offenses, while the defense finally delivered the type of dominant performance Buffalo has been searching for.

The Bills have now scored 233 points through seven games.

S³ Take: Buffalo has consistently demonstrated offensive firepower. If its defense continues performing as it did against Baltimore, this team becomes even more dangerous.

San Francisco 49ers logoSan Francisco Stays Near the Top

The 49ers enjoyed their Week 8 bye and remain 6–1.

San Francisco has scored 197 points while surrendering 139 through seven games.

The 49ers aren't undefeated anymore, but one loss doesn't erase six victories and a strong overall body of work.

Injuries remain the biggest concern, particularly among their wide receivers.

Minnesota Vikings logoMinnesota's Perfect Season Is Over

The Vikings finally lost.

Detroit defeated Minnesota 19–15, ending the Vikings' undefeated start and delivering an important NFC North victory.

Minnesota's defense once again performed well enough to win. However, the offense struggled to consistently finish possessions, and a late interception helped Detroit secure the victory.

The Vikings fall to third, but remain one of the league's strongest teams.

Denver Broncos logoDenver Makes a Statement

The Broncos might be building something special.

Denver improved to 6–2 following a dramatic 28–24 victory against Kansas City.

Bo Nix delivered two touchdown passes, and Denver's defense stood firm near the goal line to preserve the victory.

The Broncos have now won three consecutive games, including victories over Seattle and Kansas City.

After a difficult start, Denver is establishing itself as a serious AFC contender.

S³ Take: The Broncos aren't simply winning against struggling opponents. They're defeating teams expected to compete for a championship.

Chicago Bears logoChicago Continues Rolling

The Bears improved to 6–2 with an impressive 34–17 victory against the defending champion Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.

Caleb Williams completed 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown, while D'Andre Swift added three rushing touchdowns.

But the biggest development might have been Jeffrey Simmons' sensational Chicago debut.

Simmons immediately strengthened the Bears' defensive front, helping disrupt Seattle's offensive rhythm and limiting the Seahawks to 252 total yards.

Chicago has won three consecutive games since Williams returned from injury.

S³ Take: The Bears are beginning to look like a complete football team. Their defense is getting stronger, and Williams is giving the offense consistent leadership.

Jacksonville Jaguars logoJacksonville Dominates Indianapolis

Jacksonville delivered one of Week 8's most complete performances, dismantling Indianapolis 42–7.

The Jaguars improved to 5–2 and have now scored 196 points while surrendering just 111 through seven games.

Jacksonville's defense continues to establish itself among football's strongest units, while Trevor Lawrence has enough offensive weapons to capitalize on favorable opportunities.

The Jaguars remain firmly among the AFC's leading contenders.

Pittsburgh Steelers logoPittsburgh Takes Control in the AFC North

The Steelers defeated Cleveland 27–6, improving to 6–2.

Pittsburgh's defense dominated a Browns offense that continues struggling to produce consistently.

The Steelers also received an important rushing contribution from Jaylen Warren, who finished with 143 yards.

Pittsburgh is now leading the AFC North, while Baltimore continues falling behind.

Kansas City Chiefs logoKansas City's Troubles Continue

The Chiefs have lost two consecutive games.

First, Seattle held Kansas City to three points. Then Denver defeated the Chiefs 28–24 in another disappointing result.

Kansas City has fallen from an undefeated 5–0 start to 5–2.

Patrick Mahomes and the offense generated 24 points against Denver, but couldn't finish the game with the necessary touchdown.

The Chiefs aren't suddenly a bad team, but their recent performances no longer justify a position among the top five.

Cincinnati Bengals logoJoe Burrow Delivers Another Classic

Cincinnati improved to 5–2 following a spectacular 43–36 overtime victory over Tennessee.

Joe Burrow threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns, then scored the game-winning touchdown on a nine-yard run in overtime.

It was an extraordinary individual performance.

However, the Bengals also surrendered 36 points to a one-win Tennessee team.

Cincinnati's offense remains dangerous, but its defensive shortcomings continue raising legitimate concerns.

Detroit Lions logoDetroit Ends Minnesota's Undefeated Run

Detroit defeated Minnesota 19–15, improving to 5–2 and climbing into the S³ Top 10.

Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 153 yards, giving the Lions the offensive foundation necessary to control portions of the game.

The Lions' defense also delivered an important performance, limiting Minnesota to 15 points.

Detroit's offense has already demonstrated its capabilities. More performances like this defensively could make the Lions a serious championship contender.

Los Angeles Rams logoThe Rams Are Back to .500

Los Angeles defeated the winless Chargers 24–9, improving to 4–4.

The Rams have now won consecutive games after opening the season 2–4.

Their offense has generated 194 points through eight games, while the defense has surrendered 168.

Los Angeles is showing signs of improvement, but the Rams still have considerable work ahead before they can reclaim their preseason status as championship favorites.

S³ Take: Two consecutive victories are encouraging. But beating a winless opponent doesn't automatically erase an inconsistent first half of the season.

Seattle Seahawks logoSeattle Continues to Struggle

The defending Super Bowl champions are 4–4.

Seattle suffered another disappointing defeat, falling 34–17 against Chicago.

The Seahawks couldn't establish their running game, placing additional pressure on Sam Darnold and the passing offense.

Turnovers and inconsistent execution continue undermining a team that still possesses considerable talent.

Seattle has now lost three of its last four games.

Philadelphia Eagles logoPhiladelphia's Collapse Continues

The Eagles suffered their sixth consecutive defeat, falling 27–10 against Washington.

Philadelphia is now 2–6 and has generated only 137 points through eight games.

With Jalen Hurts unavailable, the Eagles continue struggling to sustain offensive possessions and produce touchdowns.

Their defense has also surrendered 202 points.

Philadelphia entered the season with championship expectations. Eight weeks later, the Eagles are among the league's biggest disappointments.

Los Angeles Chargers logoThe Chargers Remain Winless

Los Angeles fell to 0–7 following a 24–9 defeat against the Rams.

The Chargers have generated only 99 points through seven games while surrendering 175.

Justin Herbert continues struggling behind an offense that hasn't demonstrated the consistency necessary to compete.

At 0–7, the Chargers remain at the bottom of the S³ rankings.

S³ BOTTOM LINE: THE FIRST HALF IS TELLING A DIFFERENT STORY

Eight weeks into the NFL season, the landscape looks considerably different from what many expected in September.

Buffalo has taken control of the S³ rankings, San Francisco remains near the top, and Minnesota is no longer undefeated.

Denver and Chicago have emerged as legitimate championship contenders, Pittsburgh is strengthening its position in the AFC North, and Jacksonville continues producing impressive performances on both sides of the football.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have suffered consecutive defeats, Seattle remains inconsistent, and Philadelphia's season has become a disaster.

The Rams are recovering, but they're still searching for the consistency expected from a roster constructed to compete for a championship.

And the Chargers have yet to win a football game.

The second half of the season will reveal which teams can maintain their momentum and which teams will fall back toward the pack.

For now, the S³ message remains unchanged:

WE DON'T RANK THE HYPE. WE RATE THE PERFORMANCE.
