S³ | NFL WEEK 8 COVERAGE

By 2nd Ezra | Sweet Science Sports

The Los Angeles Rams didn't dominate the Chargers on Sunday, but they accomplished something more important. They avoided a trap game and improved to 4–4 with a 24–9 victory at SoFi Stadium.

It wasn't the offensive performance many expected from the Rams. Matthew Stafford finished with 157 passing yards, and Los Angeles managed just 281 yards of total offense.

The Chargers actually outgained the Rams 295–281 and held a 9–3 advantage late in the second quarter.

But the Rams responded with 21 unanswered points, while their defense kept the Chargers out of the end zone.

Sometimes winning doesn't require dominance. It requires execution.

Surviving the Trap

Trap games are rarely as easy as the standings suggest.

The Rams entered Sunday's contest needing a victory to reach .500. The Chargers were struggling, but they remained competitive for much of the afternoon.

Los Angeles converted just three of its 11 third-down opportunities, and the offense struggled to establish consistency.

Still, the Rams found ways to finish drives. Blake Corum, Kyren Williams and Puka Nacua each scored touchdowns, providing enough offense to put the Chargers away.

The difference wasn't total yardage. It was the Rams' ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities while preventing their opponent from doing the same.

From 2–4 to 4–4

Just two games ago, the Rams were sitting at 2–4, searching for answers after an inconsistent start.

Now they're back at .500, and their season looks considerably different.

The Rams travel to Washington to face the Commanders on Sunday, November 8, with an opportunity to improve to 5–4.

A victory would give Los Angeles its third consecutive win and put the team above .500 for the first time since its early-season struggles began.

The opportunity is there. The question is whether the Rams can continue building momentum.

S³ Final Assessment

The Rams aren't playing dominant football, and their offense still has plenty to improve.

But winning trap games is part of becoming a consistent football team.

Good teams don't always deliver impressive performances against struggling opponents. Sometimes they simply find a way to win.

The Rams did exactly that against the Chargers.

Now comes Washington, another opportunity to move forward.

At 2–4, the Rams were trying to save their season. At 4–4, they're trying to turn it around.
