The Dallas Cowboys are not engaging in long-term contract talks with George Pickens despite his standout 2025 season.
Pickens delivered a remarkable year and has a strong case for a long-term extension based on production and impact. Still, Dallas appears to be taking a different approach.
A Draft-First Strategy
Instead of committing long-term money now, the Cowboys appear focused on the draft, with plans to identify a long-term solution at wide receiver. That points to a reset at the position rather than building around Pickens as a cornerstone piece.
The Franchise Tag Decision
Dallas already made its short-term decision. The Cowboys placed the nonexclusive $27.3 million franchise tag on Pickens in March, securing him for the 2026 season while keeping future options open.
It's a calculated move. Dallas keeps a proven playmaker in the offense, but avoids long-term risk as they evaluate what's next.
