Official Result: Daniel Dubois defeats Fabio Wardley via TKO, Round 2 (2:21).
Daniel Dubois needed just two rounds to settle unfinished business with Fabio Wardley, successfully defending his WBO World Heavyweight Championship in a devastating performance.
Five months after their brutal encounter in Manchester, Dubois entered the rematch with a different mentality. This wasn't the vulnerable fighter who found himself on the canvas twice in their first meeting.
This was a champion on a mission.
ROUND 1: THE TABLES TURN
Seventeen seconds!
That's all Dubois needed to put Wardley on the canvas.
The champion established himself immediately, using his jab to set up a devastating right hand that sent Wardley down.
Wardley answered referee Steve Gray's count but never appeared fully recovered.
Dubois continued applying pressure, connecting with powerful combinations while Wardley struggled to establish any rhythm.
Somehow, Wardley survived the opening round.
ROUND 2: THE CORNER MAKES THE CALL
Dubois maintained his composure, demonstrating patience and confidence while continuing to apply pressure.
Wardley attempted to exchange, but each offensive commitment exposed him to Dubois' superior punching power.
With the challenger absorbing considerable punishment, his corner had seen enough.
Trainer Ben Davison threw in the towel, ending the contest at 2:21 of Round 2.
S³ FIGHT ANALYSIS
The most impressive part of Dubois' performance wasn't his punching power. It was his composure.
At a career-high 253.9 pounds, Dubois showed mobility, balance and control. His jab established the offense, his right hand delivered the damage, and his patience prevented him from becoming unnecessarily reckless.
Wardley, weighing 248.3 pounds, demonstrated tremendous courage. Nevertheless, courage alone wasn't going to overcome the punishment he was absorbing.
His corner made the right decision.
There comes a point when protecting your fighter becomes more important than allowing him another opportunity to recover.
