The Dallas Cowboys avoided an 0–2 start by defeating the Washington Commanders 37–20, but the result became secondary after Jayden Daniels re-injured his left elbow on the final play of the first half.
Washington had first-and-goal from the Dallas 1-yard line with 12 seconds remaining. Instead of settling for a field goal, the Commanders ran multiple plays and came away with no points. Daniels tripped while retreating from pressure and landed awkwardly on the same elbow he dislocated last season.
Washington entered halftime trailing 17–10 when it could have cut the deficit to four.
Dak’s Historic Performance
Dak Prescott controlled the game, completing 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards, four touchdowns and a 143.8 passer rating.
His fourth touchdown gave him 249 career touchdown passes, moving him past Tony Romo for the most in Cowboys history.
CeeDee Lamb was unstoppable:

Jake Ferguson added four receptions for 43 yards and two touchdowns.
The Turning Point
Washington opened the second half with Marcus Mariota and remained within striking distance. However, a potential Dyami Brown touchdown was overturned, and Brown later fumbled after a catch.
Dallas recovered at the Washington 13-yard line. Two plays later, Prescott found Ferguson for a touchdown that extended the lead to 27–13.
Brandon Aubrey then drilled a 60-yard field goal, and Lamb’s second touchdown finished the scoring.
Washington’s Wasted Production
The Commanders actually outgained Dallas 389–332, rushed for 182 yards and held the ball longer. But those numbers were erased by poor red-zone execution, a costly turnover and an inability to stop Prescott.
Before leaving, Daniels completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards and one touchdownm, while adding 69 rushing yards. Mariota finished 11 of 16 for 111 yards and one touchdown.
Initial X-rays showed no fracture, but Daniels suffered another dislocation and will undergo additional testing for possible ligament damage.
