Alabama enters the 2026–27 season with another talented roster, an established offensive philosophy and legitimate expectations of returning to the NCAA Tournament.

Nevertheless, head coach Nate Oats faces a familiar challenge.

The Crimson Tide can score. The question is whether they can defend consistently enough to compete with the nation's elite.

Following a 25–10 season that ended in the Sweet 16, Alabama begins the S³ preseason countdown at No. 18.

Allen and Holloway Lead the Way

Sophomore Amari Allen enters the season as Alabama's most important all-around player.

The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists during his freshman campaign, earning preseason Second Team All-SEC recognition heading into his second season.

Senior guard Aden Holloway provides another dangerous offensive weapon after averaging 16.8 points last season.

With Labaron Philon departing, Alabama will need both players to assume greater offensive responsibilities.

Nate Oats Addresses the Frontcourt

Alabama's offseason additions reflect an effort to correct last season's deficiencies.

Brandon Garrison and Drew Fielder provide additional size, physicality and rebounding, while the development of Alabama's returning personnel will be important to the team's overall balance.

Oats has acknowledged the need for defensive improvement.

The Crimson Tide cannot continue relying exclusively on offensive production to overcome defensive shortcomings.

Ten Games Against Preseason Top 25 Opponents

Alabama faces ten guaranteed regular-season matchups against nine opponents appearing in the official AP Preseason Top 25.

Average Ranked Opponent: No. 12.4

The schedule includes Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Houston, Miami, St. John's, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and two meetings with Arkansas.

That competition will provide Alabama with plenty of opportunities to establish its national standing.

Can Alabama Win the SEC?

The Crimson Tide have the offensive personnel and coaching experience to challenge the conference's strongest teams.

Nevertheless, Florida, Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee enter the season with higher preseason conference expectations.

Alabama is a legitimate dark horse, but winning the SEC championship would require substantial defensive improvement.

S³ Final Word

Alabama has enough offensive talent to challenge some of the nation's strongest programs, but the Crimson Tide must become a more complete basketball team.

The frontcourt additions provide an opportunity to improve defensively, while Allen and Holloway offer a promising offensive foundation.

S³ projects Alabama to finish 23–9 and reach the NCAA Tournament's Round of 32.

A Sweet 16 appearance would represent the upper end of our preseason expectations, while a first-round exit remains a realistic possibility if the defensive problems continue.
