The Chicago Bears opened their season with an offensive explosion, piling up 552 total yards and defeating the Carolina Panthers 59–37 at Bank of America Stadium.

Caleb Williams delivered one of the most complete performances of his young career. Williams completed 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns while adding 65 rushing yards and two more scores. He finished responsible for four touchdowns without throwing an interception.

Chicago’s rushing attack was unstoppable. D’Andre Swift led the Bears with 124 yards and two touchdowns, while Kyle Monangai contributed 100 yards and another score. Altogether, the Bears rushed for 291 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 7.9 yards per offensive play.

The Bears scored at least 14 points in every quarter:

First quarter: 14 Second quarter: 17 Third quarter: 14 Fourth quarter: 14

Bryce Young and the Panthers produced plenty of offense themselves. Young threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns, but his interception and Carolina’s two lost fumbles helped Chicago create separation. Jalen Coker led the Panthers with 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Chuba Hubbard added 87 total yards and two scores.

Carolina finished with 478 total yards and averaged 7.7 yards per play. On most Sundays, that would be enough to win. It was not enough against a Chicago offense that converted 10 of 14 third downs, controlled the game on the ground and scored relentlessly.

Williams looked comfortable, decisive and dangerous as both a passer and runner. Chicago entered the season with major expectations surrounding its young quarterback. One week into the season, those expectations may not be high enough.
