Odell Beckham Jr. is making a surprising push to earn a spot on the New York Giants’ 53-man roster following a standout week of training camp in West Virginia.
After missing the entire 2025 season, the 33-year-old veteran returned to the franchise that drafted him and is showing that his comeback could be more than just a feel-good story.
First-Team Reps
Beckham entered training camp firmly on the roster bubble, but his recent performance has strengthened his case.
After initially working with the second-team offense, Beckham has seen a significant increase in first-team reps, lining up alongside Darnell Mooney, Braxton Berrios and Calvin Austin.
He has also developed strong chemistry with quarterback Jaxson Dart. That connection has produced several impressive moments in camp, including a deep catch-and-run and a red-zone touchdown during live drills.
Those around the team have also taken notice of Beckham’s physical condition. The veteran receiver appears healthier, quicker and more comfortable than he did during his previous NFL stops.
Leadership Making an Impact
Beckham’s value hasn’t been limited to what he’s doing on the field.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh has praised Beckham’s effort, maturity and leadership throughout camp. Harbaugh even selected him to deliver the team’s daily “Wise Words” speech before later highlighting his work ethic and ability to still make plays.
Younger receivers have also turned to Beckham for advice, drawing from his experience as both one of the NFL’s biggest stars and a player who has battled through significant injuries and adversity.
Beckham Embracing the Underdog Role
Beckham understands that he’s at a different stage of his career.
He compared his situation to NBA superstar LeBron James, who has continued to evolve and adjust his game as he has gotten older. Beckham still believes he can play at a high level, even if that means winning differently than he did during his prime.
More importantly, his return to New York carries personal significance.
Twelve years after the Giants drafted him, Beckham has made it clear that he wants to finish what he started and help bring a championship back to the franchise.
What began as a comeback story is quickly becoming a legitimate roster battle.
And so far, Beckham is making a strong case to stay.
